Why do I enjoy making my line of naturally luxurious handmade Latherly Soaps?
It is a pleasure like no other to create something beautiful and useful; that nourishes body and soul. How did a girl from Manhattan turn Vermont soap maker? This is my story: When I was twentyfive, I traded in the pressures of New York City living, for a pair of calloused hands and a manure fork. For it was after months of back straining barn chores, gathering eggs, and leading the cows out to pasture, that I truly understood music and dance, both of which I had studied from early childhood and in college, to be celebrations of who we are, and all that the earth gives us.. So with my flute, tin whistle, and banjo at my side, I worked my way across the states, then Ireland for nine years, on organic farms. I learned the necessary skills ( including the many uses of duct tape and bailing twine ) in maintaining a more self-sustaining way of life, and wrote music as a testament to the people, places, and challenges I met along the way. Then with never having found a natural soap to benefit my rough and work stained hands, I decided to try making my own. Though it wasn't until after many failed attempts, during which time I moved to Burlington, that I came up with the deliciously rich blend of oils for my Latherly Soaps recipe two years later. I also wanted to create aroma therapy scents that would make people stop, if just for a moment, and "smell the roses" It is with this same joy and detemination that I created my Lavender Dreams body oil, the Skin So Soft bath salts recipe, and my Winter Time, Any Time Recipes From A Vermont Kitchen cook book.
